![]() Creative Metalworks School of Design Summer Youth Program: Ages 12-17 One-week summer courses offered Instructors: Eric Burris and Heidi Hess - Our one week Youth Program is structured to allow students to explore the riveting world of metalsmithing. - Classes are individualized to suit student needs yet encourage group participation and learning. Youth class sizes are set for a maximum of ten. Initial projects are suggested that will provide a foundation for the development of a broad range of technical skills, while spurring the creative process and in-depth learning about the fundamental principles involved. - Students will learn basic design and fabrication techniques including the use of different torches and their applications, sawing, filing and flex shaft techniques as well as more advance processes. He has taught beginning and advanced courses at various Community Colleges in Arizona for the last three years. He is currently a metals instructor at Montgomery College. For the last six summers he has taught a Youth Arts Program for the City of Tempe, focusing on art techniques and art history. ![]() Heidi Hess, a native of Washington State graduated from the University of Washington with a B.F.A in Metals Art. She has shown in group shows at the Jacob Lawrence Gallery in Seattle, and is currently working at Creative Metalworks as a metalsmith and instructor.
